The Lucky Stars: Jataka Tale Rhymes

A wedding day has been chosen, the families are ready, and every preparation has been made. Then a trusted ascetic gives a warning: the stars are unfavorable, and disaster will follow if the marriage goes ahead. Fear wins. The bridegroom's family stays home, certain they are avoiding misfortune. By the next day, everything has changed. The waiting family has taken the absence as an insult, the bride has been married to someone else, and angry arguments cannot undo what was lost. What seemed like caution has become a costly mistake, all because one offended adviser chose resentment over honesty. When the Buddha hears of a similar dispute, he reveals that the same pattern unfolded long before. Through the story of an ancient marriage, a spiteful ascetic, and a wise man who questions the power of lucky days, this Jātaka explores pride, superstition, missed opportunity, and the danger of surrendering judgment to those who claim to read fate.
