The Man in Room 17: Series

This is a reference book on the British television series The Man in Room 17, which ran from 1965-67. The book includes all 39 episodes in original date order, numerous photographs, complete cast listings, directorial credits, and a story synopsis for each episode. It was produced by Granada Television, and written and produced by Robin Chapman. The show was set in Room 17 of the Department of Social Research. There, criminologist Edwin Oldenshaw solved difficult police cases through theory and discussions with his assistant Ian Dimmock. Richard Vernon played Oldenshaw, and Dimmock was played by Michael Aldridge in season one. For the second season, Dimmock was replaced by a character called Imlac Defraits, played by Denholm Elliott. The characters frequently played a board game called Go, while remaining in the office to solve the cases. This was a novel idea in that they never had to go outside.
