Frank is summoned to Blackmere Manor for what should be a simple job. Someone is blackmailing Lord Blackmere. Six people have motive. Every one of them has something to hide. Frank and a visiting English detective are supposed to spend the evening working out which guest is responsible. Then Blackmere dies before dinner. The storm cuts off the roads. A sniper puts a bullet through the window. And suddenly the guests aren’t worried about being exposed. They’re worried about surviving the night. Already Dead opens Series Two of The Mercer Files with a classic closed-circle noir mystery filled with blackmail, corruption, murder and a house full of people whose secrets may be worth killing for.
