THE MERCY

A condemned philosopher. A young student who volunteered to listen. One night that neither of them will survive intact.Professor Kweku Appaw has less than a day to live.A respected ethicist, a devoted son, the firstborn of his family, he now sits on death row in Nsawam for a crime the law calls murder and he calls a promise kept. His father, John Appaw, had asked one thing of him years before the illness took hold: when the time comes, let me go. Kweku honoured that request. He turned himself in. He has never once said he was sorry. On his final night, a twenty-seven-year-old philosophy student named Janam Dogbey volunteers to sit with him. Janam arrives believing the conviction was unjust, armed with arguments, certain he understands the case. He does not yet know that the man he has come to comfort will dismantle every foundation he stands on, gently, completely, across the longest night of his life.
