The Mission: Bring Yourself To God

From Genesis to Revelation, God's purpose is revealed in Jesus Christ. The Mission traces that story through Scripture, showing how the Old and New Testaments together proclaim the gospel. Beginning with creation, Abraham, Joseph and Moses, the book follows the history of God's covenant with His people and its fulfilment in Christ. The Gospels lead into the mission of the apostles and the writings of Saint Paul, before the journey reaches its conclusion in the visions of Revelation: judgement, redemption, the New Jerusalem and the restoration of all things in God. Alongside passages from the King James Bible, The Mission brings together commentary, prayer, Christian reflection, poetry and literature. Its concern throughout is with the unity of Scripture: the ways in which its different books, written across centuries and in very different circumstances, belong to one history of salvation. At the centre is Jesus Christ: promised and anticipated in the Old Testament, revealed in the Gospels, proclaimed by the apostles, and shown in Revelation as the Lamb and Lord of all. The Mission is intended both for sustained reading and for quieter periods of prayer, meditation and return to Scripture.
