The Mountains Don't Forget: life and journey of Prudence Massey

The Mountains Don't Forget follows Prudence "Pru" Massey, one of ten children raised on a hardscrabble farm in Cardinal Cove, North Carolina. From the moment a mysterious older stranger rode into her life when she was just thirteen, Pru dreamed of escape and love. Marriage, however, brought only violence and endless labor. After a brutal beating, she seized her chance of freedom, leaving behind her husband and children for a new life. Her journey takes her from nurses' training in Jacksonville to St. Augustine, Florida, where she navigates love, betrayal, motherhood, and even a murder trial haunted by a ghost's testimony. Happiness seems within reach when she marries a successful German businessman, but tragedy follows. When her youngest son, Lon, is accused of murder and vanishes, Pru is torn between keeping his secret and finding peace. Ultimately, her story comes full circle, forcing her to reconcile with her past and the price of survival.
