The Murder Mystery of Trieste

Trieste is a city of borders-between nations, languages, the living and the forgotten. When homeless people begin dying near its churches and harbour, each body is found holding a small wooden cross bound with red thread. The police see unrelated deaths. Psychologist Marco Muzzi sees something else: a pattern leading back to Ana, the woman he loved and lost under mysterious circumstances. Then Elena Rog enters his life.Intelligent, compassionate and impossible to read, Elena understands Marco's grief more deeply than anyone ever has. But as the deaths follow them from Venice to Sicily, Marco discovers that love can conceal evidence-and that the person who saves us may also be the person who destroyed us.Years later, armed with false identities and protected by secrets buried inside powerful institutions, a woman called Nika waits for him in Room 17 of a hotel in Koper. To uncover the truth, Marco must decide whether Elena is the murderer he has been hunting, an innocent woman being framed-or the obsession his broken mind created to survive. But Elena has never wanted to remain invisible. She has been waiting for one person to see her completely. And recognition always has a price.
