The Muse of Chance and Other Poems

Joanna Dyson Jakubcin succeeds in bringing a group of lively and rhythmic poems to fruition in her 2023 book "The Muse of Chance and Other Poems." This collection of her poems includes several new works, as well as her original lyrics for many of the poems she has recorded as songs over the past seven years. Her absurd and high-energy volunteer-clown experience added some new dimensions to her recent poems. The various historical roles and legends surrounding bards, mimes, clowns, jokers, jesters, and harlequins are touched upon frequently in her later poems. In this 2023 collection of poems, Joanna's tenth book has invented an unusual poetic voice with modern scientific references blended with humor, satire, mythology, and historical references. Several new unpublished poems written after 2021, as well as some previous favorites are presented in this book. Her 9th book contemplated the COVID-shutdown years, in "Twenty-two Poems for 2022." Her 8th book published mid-pandemic in 2020 was entitled "The Nervous Dragonfly," and included many poems written from 2016 through 2020. In the past few years Joanna has achieved some success in vocal performance of cover songs with local bands, as well as studio recordings of her original songs converted from her poems. As of April 2023, nine of her original poems from her previous books were performed and recorded in the pop-folk-world music genre. The songs are available on Spotify and other streaming services.
