The Muskrats of Walden

THE MUSKRATS OF WALDEN Book Four of the Bullfrogs of Walden NovelsSpring returns to Walden Reach, and the western path sinks seven-eighths of an inch. That is the entire crisis, at first. The bench stays level. The grass covers the slope. Beneath the pavement, muskrats have been carrying the bank away one mouthful of mud at a time, entering through doors nobody standing on the path can see.Russ Danner moved into cottage twenty-eight to stop being a water engineer. Denise Avery has spent a lifetime refusing to be managed, and she does not intend to make an exception for a widower who alphabetizes. What begins as an argument over caution tape becomes the thing neither of them budgeted for.Vera Rourke finds her keys in the refrigerator and tells no one. George Mercer stops halfway down his own basement stairs. The pond keeps rising. Then the storm arrives, the path opens, and Walden Reach learns what the muskrats already knew. The quietest part of a thing is usually the part doing the work. Think Gilmore Girls at sixty-five, narrated by frogs.
