the Names of God: Revealing Power His Character in Scripture

You know more of God's names than you think. You sing one every December. Another is printed on a coffee mug in your kitchen cabinet. Every one of us carries a working picture of God, assembled over the years from sermons, songs, and study. Here's the problem: A small picture of God produces a small faith. The names of God enlarge the picture. In the Bible, God gave these names to shepherds, slaves, soldiers, and frightened parents. He gave them beside bitter water, in the bottom of a winepress, and on a mountain with a knife in the air. These names came to ordinary people in impossible situations, people exactly like you. When God reveals a name in Scripture, he reveals something about his character. And every name points forward to Jesus. In The Names of God, Rainer explores eleven names, one chapter at a time, for personal reading or group study. No Hebrew required. And every one of them leads to the same place: salvation found only in Christ.
