Muggy, a sharp-willed child with a captain's heart, clings to her missing father's compass and the stubborn hope that "missing" is not the same as gone. And Joseph Cyprian, who survived the storm only to face the brutal machinery of the law, must fight for the right to belong to himself. At Canebrake, a Louisiana plantation trying to become something better than the world that shaped it, new loyalties are formed, old wounds are opened, and the lives of the living and the lost begin to intertwine. As questions grow around Muggy's strange compass, Laurent's unsettling connection to the water, and the fate of those claimed by paper and power, each member of the household must decide what survival now requires of them.Rich in atmosphere, history, and heart, The Needle Points North is a story of family reclaimed, freedom contested, and the stubborn hope that even after devastation, a life can still be remade.
