This work is a critical, socio-political and ethical examination of the neoliberal social model, as developed and advocated by Friedrich August von Hayek and Robert Nozick, amongst others. An explanation of the neoliberal programme and a brief insight into its historical origins form the foundation for the subsequent critical analysis, in which the neoliberal model of society is compared, amongst other things, with John Rawls' theory of justice. In view of the real-political, social and economic consequences of the neoliberal system, it is argued that the concept of a just society as conceived by John Rawls is preferable to that of neoliberalism.
