the night before Feis

The night before a feis, one little Irish dancer can't sit still. From the moment she wakes up - tapping her toes while she brushes her teeth - to the moment she finally drifts off whispering her steps, every part of her day is filled with the rhythm of dance. She hears music in her cereal bowl, practices reels down the hallway, and dreams of her sparkling solo dress, her poodle socks, and the curly wig waiting in its box. When feis day finally arrives, nerves and excitement dance together as she laces her ghillies, pulls on her dress, and waits backstage with her foireann (team) for her turn on the stage. And when the music starts, all that practice becomes pure joy.The Night Before Feis is a rhythmic, read-aloud picture book that captures the universal feeling every young performer knows - the flutter of butterflies before doing something you love. Written by an Irish dance mom for her own tiny dancer, this story is full of authentic details from the world of competitive Irish dance: soft shoes and hard shoes, trebles and rince, wigs and solo dresses.A glossary of Irish (Gaeilge) words and dance terms is included at the back of the book, making it a perfect read-aloud for dance families, feis newcomers, and anyone who has ever counted down the days to something they've practiced for all year.Perfect for young Irish dancers, their siblings, and the families who cheer them on from the sidelines.
