the Orthodox Christian Bible Study Series, Gospel of Matthew: A Complete Verse-by-Verse Commentary from Church Fathers

Read the Gospel According to Matthew with the Church Fathers at your side.St. John Chrysostom preached ninety sermons on the Gospel of Matthew, and they remain the fullest reading of this Gospel any Father ever gave. Yet most people never get to read them. They sit in costly multi-volume sets, in the English of another century. This book brings them to your table. All 28 chapters of Matthew are here, verse by verse, in 81 short studies. Each study gives you the passage itself, the day the Church reads it in worship, a plain walk through the verses, and the Fathers in their own words. Every teaching is tied to a named Father, so you always know who is speaking.Inside you will find:162 word-for-word quotations from St. John Chrysostom, with Blessed Theophylact of Ohrid and other Fathers cited by name where they speakThe King James text, gently updated (thou and thee become you), with the Lord's Prayer left untouchedA full reading plan that follows the Church year, feast by feastAn index of themes, people, and feastsRead it straight through, or read it as the Church does, one appointed day at a time. Either way, you will never have to read Matthew alone.
