the OTHER VERSION OF ME: What If Life You Didn’t Live Was Better?

What if everyone from college seems to have done better than you?A bigger career. A better title. More money. More travel. A more impressive life.At forty-six, Arvind has built a respectable life. A stable career. A loving wife. A daughter. A home. And yet, one old notebook changes everything.Inside is the life plan he wrote at twenty-one: study abroad, build a global career, become a senior executive, travel the world, achieve financial freedom, and never settle for an ordinary life. Then Arvind looks at his former classmates. One became a private equity leader. Another built a successful company. Others seem to have the international careers, wealth, recognition, and freedom he once imagined for himself. And suddenly one question begins to consume him: What if the life he did not live was better?THE OTHER VERSION OF ME is an emotional, thought-provoking contemporary short story about comparison, regret, career choices, success, midlife reflection, missed opportunities, college friendships, ambition, self-doubt, social comparison, alternate lives, family, and the meaning of a successful life.Relatable to anyone who has ever looked at an old friend's career, social media profile, promotion, business success, foreign posting, or lifestyle and quietly wondered: Did I make the wrong choices? As Arvind begins comparing his real life with the perfect imaginary version of the life he could have lived, he discovers something uncomfortable: The life we did not choose has one enormous advantage. We only imagine what we would have gained. We rarely imagine what it would have cost us.A powerful short read for anyone who has ever felt behind in life, compared themselves with successful friends, questioned past decisions, or wondered whether they settled for less.Because sometimes the other version of you looks better only because he never had to live your reality.
