The Perfect Wife

A sixteenth-century treatise on homemaking made relevant for the modern reader. The Perfect Wife is a fresh English translation of Fray Luis de León's La perfecta casada (1583). Working verse by verse through Solomon's portrait of the ideal wife in Proverbs 31, Fray Luis builds a rich, practical vision of household life: the dignity of land and labor, the craft of thrift and provision, the raising of children, the keeping of a good table, and the quiet, cumulative power of a well-run home. Drawn from Scripture, the Church Fathers, and classical literature alike, it is both a serious work of Renaissance theology and a surprisingly vivid, opinionated guide to domestic life, industrious, unsentimental, and often very funny. >Casada Press is a family-run independent press dedicated to bringing enduring works of cultural thought and practice to a new generation of readers. We publish carefully chosen works from across centuries and traditions, with an emphasis on faithful translation, careful editorial work, and books made to be read, kept, and passed on. Our aim is simple: to preserve what deserves preserving, and to bring it to todays reader without losing its character, depth, or voice.
