Furthermore, Aston-Roth's character is highly ambiguous, as it's unclear whether he's just a successful businessman or the reincarnation of a devil well-known for centuries in Christian tradition. In any case, his intentions go far beyond the stock market, touching on spiritual and personal issues that even involve Julia, which further complicates the situation. Initially, Thomas suffers heavy losses with his investment, which decrease as his trading skills improve. He discusses all this with three old-school friends during one of the dinners the four couples occasionally hold.
