The reluctant novice

If a girl in the 60s did not go to Grammar School, her only options were to work in a factory or get married, Irene was determined not to do either and strives to become qualified so as to enter a Teacher's Training College. However, the Principal, a nun, claims Irene has a vocation and expels her. In spite Irene rebels against this injustice she realizes all her options have been cut off and therefore decides to enter the convent but on her own terms, where soon enough she learns that even if some nuns are very ordinary when they enter the cloister, special or downright stupid they all seem to become synchronized… Irene, however, wants to remain herself and struggles with all her might against being shaped into any category.
