THE REPOSITIONING OF IJAW NATION

This book is a bold and urgent work of political scholarship, personal reckoning, and strategic vision. Written by an Ijaw son and diaspora intellectual, it confronts one of the most glaring paradoxes in Nigerian political life: the Ijaw people, whose lands and waters generate the vast majority of Nigeria's petroleum revenues - the economic lifeblood of a nation of over 200 million - remain among the most politically marginalized, economically impoverished, and environmentally devastated communities in the country. The book traces the arc of the Ijaw Nation from the Kaiama Declaration of 1998 through the armed militancy of the 2000s, the Presidential Amnesty Programme of 2009, and into the political crises of 2025-2026. It diagnoses what the author calls the "docility trap" - the structural cycle of protest, co-optation, and pacification that has historically neutralized Ijaw political agency - and offers a concrete roadmap for breaking out of it. The Ijaw Nation must undertake a conscious, structured, and sustained transition from reactive posturing to strategic realignment.
