As he prepares to close this chapterand enter retirement, this collection stands as a livingtestament to the thousands of voices he helped find, refine, and amplify. Jeff has always been more than an educator; heis a pillar of our community and a master of the craft. Whetherstanding at the front of a classroom, hosting a poetry slam, ormentoring a nervous first-time writer, he has taught us thatstories are not just ink on paper, they are tools for survival andcatalysts for change. His brilliance lies in his ability to see the"writer" in every student before they can even see it inthemselves. To Jeff: thank you for the late nights, the honestcritiques, the infectious passion, and the years of unwaveringbelief in the power of the written word. You have shaped thelandscape of this city and the lives of your students in waysthat words can't quite capture, though we've spent this booktrying. Congratulations on your retirement. You've left the penin good hands.
