The Saint of Small Disasters: Love, Magic, and a City That Forgot How to Break

A city that never breaks is a city storing up trouble. Merrit Saye, a black-backed jackal and gifted incident mage, can feel failures before they happen. Fourteen months after a split-second decision saved hundreds and wrecked her career, she wants her license back-and a future far from Ternwick. Nell Ordan, a capybara structural engineer, is the last woman Merrit wants at her side. Nell helped investigate the disaster that ended Merrit's career, trusts load calculations over brilliant improvisation, and has an infuriating habit of being right. Then Ternwick's celebrated Quiet Grid starts doing its job too well. By suppressing the harmless breakdowns that once warned of deeper problems, the city's perfect safety system is turning ordinary wear into a chain of connected catastrophes. Stopping it will take engineering, incident magic, public cooperation, and one dangerous idea: sometimes the safest thing a city can do is let something small fail. Unfortunately, Merrit and Nell are also falling for each other. The Saint of Small Disasters is an adult sapphic romantic fantasy with a fully anthropomorphic cast, dry humor, competent women, civic magic, bureaucratic absurdity, and disaster-scale stakes.
