The Science of HER: A Scientific Love Story Like No Other ...

Pratyush Kumar runs at steady state. Third year, Mechanical Engineering, IIT Bombay: a heat exchanger problem, a ceiling fan whose frequency he finds soothing, and the certainty that love is something other people experience. Then, at a campus event by Powai Lake, he sees a Physics student arguing about eigenvalues - and catches himself counting a stranger's blinks. Nandita draws fractals in the sand at Juhu Beach and says some things exist for a while, you just make them while you can. She turns up at his lab with dosa. He carries a family ring in his desk drawer for three weeks, waiting for her birthday. That night his call goes to voicemail. Two weeks later comes a sentence - please don't call me anymore - and a reason with a family's weight behind it. Years later, at a conference in Zürich, a session chair reads a name into a microphone.Dry, exact and quietly devastating, The Science of HER is a first love written up like an experiment, by the one person who could never be objective about it.
