This book began with a simple frustration: much of meaningful research remains inaccessible to readers outside academia. After years of contributing to research across medicine, public health, politics, architecture, neuroscience, and other fields, the author wanted to bring these ideas closer to ordinary readers. The result is a collection of twenty-one essays spanning fifteen disciplines, translating complex research into accessible human stories. The number twenty-one is intentional. In Bangla, bish means both twenty and poison. Twenty-one also evokes February 21, International Mother Language Day, rooted in Bangladesh's Language Movement. For a book centered on translation and the power of language, no other number felt more fitting.
