The Secret of Alicanto is a moving literary novel about love, motherhood, family secrets, and the courage to begin again after heartbreak.Maria, a Brazilian-born nurse living in West Palm Beach, Florida, is left to raise her twins alone after her husband abandons her before they are even born. Overwhelmed by responsibility yet determined to build a peaceful life for her children, Maria carries both the quiet strength of a devoted mother and the private pain of a woman who has learned to survive heartbreak alone. When an unexpected trip to Portugal brings her into the path of Jerry Feinberg - a warm, thoughtful Harvard biology professor on sabbatical - her carefully guarded heart begins to open again. Their connection deepens through kindness, conversation, and a shared understanding of loneliness. But Maria's past is never as distant as she hopes.Around her neck, she wears an Alicanto necklace - a beautiful, haunting reminder of memory, passion, and a secret she has never spoken aloud. As the story moves from Florida to Portugal, Brazil, and the otherworldly Atacama Desert of Chile, the truth behind the necklace grows impossible to outrun, weaving together love, identity, family, and fate in ways no one could have predicted.Rich with emotional depth, cultural texture, romance, and human complexity, The Secret of Alicanto is more than a love story. It is a story about the choices we make, the secrets we carry, and the courage it finally takes to face the truth.Perfect for readers who love emotional family dramas, women's fiction, literary romance, multicultural stories, and deeply human novels about second chances and the weight of what we keep hidden.
