the silence of black watter: They didn’t need to own water. only needed decide what numbers meant.

Montevideo, 2002. Uruguay is going through one of the worst economic crises in its history. Banks are collapsing, unemployment is spreading, and an entire country seems to be holding its breath. In the midst of that uncertainty, a teenager named Nicolás Acosta dies after swimming in the polluted waters of the Pantanoso. His mother, Rocío, refuses to accept that it was simply an accident.Criminal lawyer Bruno Mederos takes the case. What begins as an investigation into a contaminated river soon leads him, investigative journalist Julia Ferré, and hydraulic engineer Marina Corujo into a maze of altered reports, manipulated environmental data, rigged tenders, charitable foundations, multinational corporations, and government offices where every signature seems to conceal another decision. At the center of that machinery is Carina Martínez, an intelligent and formidable woman who understands that power does not always need to impose itself by force. Sometimes it is enough to control the documents, the language, the data-and the time.As the investigation expands beyond Montevideo, the conflict reaches The Hague, Brussels, and the deeper waters of a transboundary underground reservoir whose strategic value could change the balance of power in the region. What seemed to be a case of environmental contamination becomes something far more dangerous: a struggle over who controls water, who controls the information about it, and who gets to decide what counts as normal. The Silence of Black Water is a political and environmental noir thriller about corruption, institutional complicity, corporate power, memory, and the invisible mechanisms through which essential resources can change hands without ever appearing to have been sold.Because water does not need to disappear to be taken away.Sometimes, all it takes is changing the rules.
