This work is an attempt to analyse the substance of the Soviet government's policy towards the Kyrgyz nation, viewed through the lens of the USSR's specific nationality policy: its aims, methods and long-term consequences. The introductory section provides an overview of the history of the Kyrgyz people up to the 19th century, when they came under Russian influence. It also examines Russia's colonial policy in order to understand its similarities and differences with the USSR's national policy. The main body of the work is devoted to the Soviet administration of the Kyrgyz national question in its concrete reality, with a view to assessing the consequences of the Sovietisation of the Kyrgyz.
