Assigned to the 4th Special Service Brigade, the Commando saw extensive service in North-West Europe. It took part in the D-Day campaign, landing on Nan White Beach at Bernières-sur-Mer on 7 June 1944. Immediately committed to action, the unit was tasked with seizing the fortified position of Petit Enfer and subsequently fought a fierce engagement in the liberation of the village of Rots, where it confronted elite formations of the 12th SS Panzer Division.Thereafter, 46 Commando participated in a series of operations across the Low Countries and Germany, including actions around Ostend and Antwerp. During the final advance into Germany, the unit took part in several major river crossings, the Rhine, Weser, Aller, and ultimately the Elbe, before reaching the Baltic coast. Following the conclusion of hostilities, the Commando was disbanded in January 1946
