Fourteen-year-old Oliver has spent every summer he can remember at CEAR, an experimental archaeology camp where buildings are reconstructed using Neolithic techniques. This year, his best friend Joe comes with him. So does Leandra, whom Oliver has known for years without ever quite understanding. Joe and Leandra clash almost immediately. Then supplies begin disappearing from the camp. As Oliver and Joe investigate, they hear about Georges Lebron, a murderer who supposedly escaped from the nearby prison thirty years ago. Soon Leandra is convinced that someone is following her. Between campfires, canoe trips, arguments, jokes and long summer days, the three teenagers are slowly drawn together — and towards a mystery that is much closer to CEAR than any of them realise.
