THE SUNNIS OF LEBANON: A COMMUNITY IN TRANSITION

In The Sunnis of Lebanon: A Community in Transition, Dr. Abraham Khoureis, Ph.D., tells the story of a community that helped shape the nation's character, guided its institutions, and bridged its many divisions. From the rise of a new religion Islam along the coast to the long centuries under Ottoman rule, the Sunnis story is woven through Beirut, Sidon, and Tripoli, the cities that defined Lebanon's open connection to the Arab world, and beyond. This volume is part of The People and Cultures of Lebanon series by Dr. Abraham Khoureis, Ph.D., a global thinker known for documenting the true history of global communities without bias or embellishment. In this book, he invites readers to understand the Sunnis of Lebanon not through stereotypes or politics but through their enduring contributions to the nation's life. He explores how a people once at the heart of government and trade adapted to new borders, shifting power, and modern uncertainty. Their experience reflects Lebanon's own struggle for balance, between faith and state, East and West, continuity, transition, and change.
