Educational reforms are multiplying across the globe with the goal of improving learning quality. Yet, the results often fall short of expectations. This work advocates a strong conviction: the quality of an educational system depends first and foremost on the quality of its teaching profession. Drawing on insights from educational sciences, the economics of education, and educational policy, we analyze the conditions required for effective teacher professionalization. Initial training, ongoing professional development, reflective practice, institutional recognition, and working conditions are studied as complementary dimensions of a single quality dynamic.Aimed at researchers, trainers, students, and policymakers, this book offers a refreshed perspective on educational reforms and demonstrates that investing in teachers is not just one measure among many, but the essential prerequisite for a more effective, equitable, and forward-looking school system.
