He studied the Classics at the Free University in Amsterdam. His doctoral thesis was a geographical and historical commentary on the description of the Roman Provincia Narbonensis by the Greek geographer Strabo. He was a teacher of Greek, Latin, Ancient History, Religion, German and Geography in the Netherlands and in Flanders. At the Evangelical Theological Faculty in Leuven-Heverlee he taught Exegesis of the New Testament and Hermeneutics. He ended his career as a school inspector.
