The Trials of Chaukhandi - Second Edition

A journey home becomes a journey across time when one woman is drawn into the haunting story of three women whose voices refuse to disappear.Meher is traveling from New York to Karachi when the nightmares begin. What first seems like a disturbing dream soon follows her into waking life. Visions, unexplained encounters, and echoes of another time draw her deeper into a mystery tied to three women, a brutal act of violence, and a story demanding to be heard. As the boundaries between past and present, life and death, and dream and reality begin to dissolve, Meher's journey carries her through the cultural landscapes of Pakistan and into the mysteries surrounding the historic Chaukhandi tombs. What she encounters forces her to confront questions of faith, tradition, women's autonomy, justice, and the customs that can become instruments of oppression.Inspired by events surrounding honor killings in Pakistan, The Trials of Chaukhandi blends literary fiction, mystery, the supernatural, fantasy, and time travel in a story rich with family, memory, culture, and faith. This substantially revised Second Edition features restructured chapters, expanded scenes, and a newly arranged presentation of the author's poetry. At its heart lies a haunting question:When the dead can no longer speak for themselves, who will remember their story?
