the Umber Nothing: At edge of universe, nothing was waiting. Unfortunately, it bored.

At the edge of the universe, nothing was waiting. Unfortunately, it was bored. One Tuesday afternoon, David Middleton turns right instead of left and walks to the edge of the universe. David is forty-three, newly divorced, and freshly passed over for the promotion he spent seventeen years earning. He is the kind of man who apologises when reality inconveniences him. Then reality ends. Beyond it waits The Umber Nothing: an emptiness the colour of closed eyes, inhabited by a child-god who can make anything except meaning. David is dismantled, remade, duplicated, corrected, and tested by a being who knows everything except what anything is for. But the ordeal becomes smaller, stranger, and more human than either of them expects. What begins as a metaphysical confrontation turns into a reckoning with marriage, memory, cowardice, love, and the terrible necessity of Thursday.
