The Unity Tour: Psalms in English and Hebrew for Guitar Vocals

After the first presidency of Donald J. Trump (2017-2021) there was a lot of talk about unity in the United States of America and I asked myself, "How do you actually do unity work?" Then an idea came to me that both Jews and Christians use the Psalms in their liturgy. As an observant Jew, I studied my own prayer book, and then I consulted with Christian clergy and friends regarding the particular psalms that they use in their services. I chose 24 pieces from the Psalms and composed and then recorded them in both English and Hebrew. The musical notation includes notes for vocals and guitar.In the guitar part, I added chord sketches to help the guitarist with the particular type of chord. For a guitarist, these chord sketches are only a starting point from which each guitarist can chose the location on the guitar's fretboard to play, and the particular style of playing.The power of the Psalms is in their devotion to God and their spiritual inspiration. To religious believers, the Psalms are a sacred text with an everlasting power. The very fact that we repeatedly go back to the Psalms and use them not only in our daily prayers but also at major junctures of our life, in good times and in bad times, are a testament to their importance in our spiritual lives. The purpose of The Unity Tour and the demonstration recordings that accompany it is to serve as a resource forinterfaith dialogue between Jews and Christians and to bring people of different faiths closer to each other through the profound wisdom and beauty of the Psalms.
