THE WEIGHT OF A NAME

Mara Venn has spent thirty-eight years believing that a name is the simplest fact a person can own. Then, while sorting through her late father's papers, she finds a birth certificate with her name on it-and the wrong date. What begins as a clerical discrepancy leads to the story of a six-year-old girl who disappeared decades earlier. She was also named Mara Venn.Soon, other pieces of Mara's life begin to shift. A debt she never incurred bears her signature. Strangers remember conversations she never had. Records connect her to places she has never visited. And hidden among her father's possessions is evidence that none of it happened by accident. The deeper Mara searches, the more dangerous the question becomes. If her memories can be manipulated, her choices engineered, and her identity borrowed from someone who vanished long ago, what remains that is truly hers? The Weight of a Name is a psychological mystery about identity, memory, inheritance, and the unsettling possibility that a life can be constructed long before the person living it learns to ask why.
