the White Negro: A Series of Lectures on Race Problem

The young Reverend Montrose William Thornton, the son of enslaved parents and pastor of the African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church, became an award winning orator in his life. Along with becoming somewhat a controversial figure in the 1800s, during a time of the vicious, sadistic oppression of Black Americans in the USA, he directly called out white racists for their thirst of injustice and blood of the Negro. Inside this manuscript, Thornton not only was outspoken on the lynchings of the time, but he also spoke very direct words on on colorism in the Black community while also proudly revealing the strength of Black Americans and how in so short a time, they surpassed those who predicted their failure. He speaks to the welfare of Black Americans remaining on this land - the United States of America - never to emigrate to another and for his own logically, good reasons. In this new, revised, expanded edition, the book's afterword, provided by Mirika Mayo Cornelius, takes a glimpse into the author's life during one of the worst lynchings recorded in the state of Delaware - the lynching of George White and how Reverend Thornton addressed it head on, fearlessly, in words that were then used against him by many. At the same time, however, Thornton's words were a gut punch to the lynch mobs who continuously destroyed his people.
