The Winds of Bellingham: Silent Struggle

This story portrays a struggle for survival that is seldom spoken about. It shows the character of a person who battles most of his adult life, and this reveals what he always had inside himself but would rather not have needed. In the beginning of the story, two students meet at Western Washington University in the nature-filled Pacific Northwest during the fall of 1977. They become lifelong friends. Both young men grew up in rural communities to hardworking parents, and they are smart and similarly grounded, yet they see their lives take different paths after college. The storyteller considers deep psychological observations in trying to make sense of the conflicts he sees as the two friends' lives unfold. Each friend's journey is joined when the love of a woman enters his life. This book is considered a short novel, taking about 4 to 5 hours to read at average reading speed.
