the Woman in Footage: A Psychological Thriller About Deepfakes, Digital Identity, and Perfect Lie

A missing woman. An impossible video. A lie so deep it can rewrite reality itself. Forensic auditor Julian Mercer deals in hard facts-until tech billionaire Daniel Cross walks into his office with a terrifying proposition. Four days ago, Daniel's wife, Maya, walked into a high-security Manhattan bank, passed every biometric and facial authentication system, and transferred millions to an offshore account. There is only one problem: Maya Cross died in a burning car eleven months ago. Driven by a need to separate physical truth from digital illusion, Julian-alongside his sharp conservator wife, Clara-begins pulling at the threads of Maya's life and death. What starts as a simple fraud investigation quickly spirals into a lethal nightmare. At every turn, physical evidence contradicts digital reality: a cracked antique mirror that exists in two places at once, medical records quietly accessed hours before a fatal crash, and a shadowy prototype known only as Project Mirror. As Julian digs deeper into the dark underbelly of digital identity, deepfakes, and surveillance, the line between victim and architect blurs. Maya wasn't just a casualty of modern technology-she may have built the very engine designed to replace her. And now, the system has set its sights on Julian. Perfect for fans of Blake Crouch, Mark Russinovich, and William Gibson, The Woman in the Footage is a fast-paced, razor-sharp psychological techno-thriller about digital ghosts, modern identity, and the terrifying price of proof.
