This book attempts to consolidate, organize, and examine the teachings attributed directly to Jesus of Nazareth across the four canonical Gospels, deliberately excluding narrative description, the words of the apostles, and material found only in the Epistles, Acts, or later Christian writing. Working from the Synoptic Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke together with the Gospel of John, it identifies the major recurring themes of Jesus's own recorded speech, his proclamation of the kingdom of God, his portrait of God as Father and judge, his ethical instruction on love, forgiveness, wealth, humility, and nonretaliation, his teaching on prayer, faith, and anxiety, his relationship to the Law of Moses, his claims regarding his own identity and authority, his warnings of judgment, his eschatological discourse concerning the end of the age, his farewell instruction to his disciples, his words at the Last Supper, and his final commission after the resurrection.
