The Worm Ouroboros

A landmark of early twentieth-century English fantasy, this richly imagined epic follows the struggles, rivalries, alliances, and ambitions of powerful figures across an invented world shaped by Norse myth and saga traditions. Set in the fantastical realm referred to as Mercury and Middle Earth, the narrative blends elements of heroic legend with a deliberately archaic literary style inspired by Tudor and Jacobean English. Demons, Witches, Pixies, Imps, and other peoples inhabit a world where human passions drive conflict as much as warfare and politics. Beneath its elaborate battles and adventures lie enduring themes of honor, courage, ambition, loyalty, rivalry, and the pursuit of power. First published in a limited edition in 1922, the work occupies an important place in the development of English fantasy literature and remains notable for its distinctive language, mythic atmosphere, and expansive invention.
