Tooth Coloured Restorative Material in Pediatric Dentistry

Tooth-coloured restorative materials play an important role in pediatric dentistry by restoring function, aesthetics, and tooth structure in children affected by dental caries. Commonly used materials include glass ionomer cements, resin composites, compomers, Giomer, resin-modified glass ionomers, and newer alkasite materials such as Cention N. Each material possesses unique properties related to adhesion, fluoride release, mechanical strength, aesthetics, and handling characteristics. Glass ionomer cements are valued for fluoride release and chemical bonding, while composites provide superior aesthetics and strength. Giomer and compomers combine aesthetic and anticariogenic properties, whereas Cention N offers improved durability and ion release. Selection of an appropriate restorative material depends on factors such as caries risk, moisture control, cavity size, aesthetics, and patient cooperation to achieve long-term clinical success.
