Toward a New Era of Road Safety in Cameroon

The book *Toward a New Approach to Road Safety in Cameroon: A Psychosocial Approach to Driving* demonstrates that road safety issues in the country, far from being inevitable, is a systemic crisis largely attributable to the human factor, whose dangerous behaviors stem from cognitive biases and deep-seated psychological mechanisms such as the illusion of control or overconfidence. Drawing on behavioral analysis tools, the authors-Georges Atcha, Hélène Chantal Ngah Essomba, and Edouard Adrien Mvessomba-deconstruct the flaws in purely punitive approaches and advocate for a holistic reform that integrates driver psychology into public policy, driver's licenses, and prevention, in order to shift from a punishment-centered approach to a more human and cognitive approach to road safety.
