Oral diseases are a global scourge in terms of their prevalence. They affect people of all ages. Given the rising incidence rates, there is reason to believe that these diseases remain a serious global health problem. Most oral diseases, apart from tooth decay, and the consequences they have on the rest of the body are still poorly understood by the general public, particularly in Africa, where campaigns to combat these conditions are rare and sporadic. Treatment is too expensive and places a heavy burden on poor communities. It is therefore in our collective interest to raise awareness by considering all the solutions proposed at local level and developing them for the benefit of the global community. This book aims to raise this awareness amongst all stakeholders - policymakers, governments, humanitarian and development organisations, as well as consumers - in order to find rapid and sustainable solutions.
