Understanding and Practice

The Academic Library of the Chinese National Academy of Arts: Understanding and Practice (Selected Essays on Traditional Opera and Folklore) is divided into two parts. The upper part presents the author's recent research findings on stele inscriptions of traditional opera guilds and documents related to operatic performance. From the perspectives of national language policy, changes in economic and cultural systems, the management of opera troupes, and the cataloging of operatic documents, this section meticulously examines and discusses the evolutionary patterns of Kunqu, Peking Opera, and regional operatic arts since the 18th century. It combines micro-level documentary research with fieldwork practice, with a focus on elucidating and revealing the laws governing stage art. The lower part approaches the study of traditional opera from the perspective of folk ecology.
