UNDERSTANDING THE GIFTS OF SPIRIT

There is a moment in the life of every sincere believer when you realize that the Christian life is not meant to be lived in your own strength. Something stirs inside of you. You begin to notice that the early church operated with a power that seems almost foreign in many places today. People were healed. The dead were raised. Prophetic words came with startling accuracy. Demons were cast out with authority. And ordinary men and women, fishermen and tent makers, moved through the world as instruments of the supernatural. That same power is available to you today. It has never been revoked. The Holy Spirit has not retired, and the gifts He gives have not been cancelled. The promise is still standing, the river is still flowing, and the fire is still burning for all who will come and receive. Acts 2:38-39 Then Peter said to them, 'Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.' The Holy Spirit is a person, not a force or an energy. He is the third person of the Trinity, coequal with the Father and the Son. When He comes into a believer's life, He does not come empty handed. He comes loaded with gifts, graces, and divine enablements that are designed to glorify Jesus Christ and build up the church. This book is a journey into those gifts. My prayer as you read is that the Spirit of God will open your understanding, stir your hunger, and release a fresh activation of His gifts in your life. Do not read this with mere intellectual curiosity. Read it with an open heart, with prayer, and with an expectation that God will speak to you personally through every page. The gifts of the Spirit are not for a special class of ministers alone. They are for the whole church. They are for you. Let us begin.
