US Invasion of Afghanistan and Pakistan's Security Dilemma: September 11, 2001 Till 2014

This research examines Pakistan's role as a frontline state in the war on terror and the security challenges it faced after 9/11. It analyzes India's strategic approach toward Afghanistan, particularly in light of the planned withdrawal of international forces, aimed at limiting Pakistan's influence in Afghan affairs. Historically, India has sought to prevent Pakistan from gaining dominance in Afghanistan and to discourage a Taliban resurgence. Conversely, Pakistan views Afghanistan as a counterbalance to Indian influence, considering friendly Indo-Afghan ties a strategic threat and perceiving encirclement on both eastern and western borders. Pakistan's security dilemma underscores the pursuit of strategic depth in Afghanistan, while India similarly seeks influence to mitigate its security concerns. This research highlights common grounds and potential cooperative opportunities, advocating a trilateral approach involving India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan to address regional security dilemmas and promote stability through dialogue and mutual engagement.
