The common names of this species are numerous, including: "Japanese littleneck", "Manilla clam", "steamer clam", "Filipino Venus", "Japanese cockle", and "Japanese carpet shell". It was accidentally introduced to the West Coast of North America with oyster spat from Japan and now occurs from northern British Columbia to central California.
