The first four are told in fictional voices: the Quartermaster (how to care for body, mind and soul), the Custodian of Beauty (how to discover true beauty in yourself and others), the Memory-keeper (how to build a "storehouse of thankfulness"), a future citizen of Heaven (Hilary herself on living as a Christian in a beautiful, flawed world). The final section consists of dialogues between Bible characters and God, followed by the author's meditation and prayer. There are also two lists of Bible themes: "References to central themes from the Maker's instruction" and "Shorthand list with Maker's instructions".
