Visual Rhythm in Filmmaking

This book offers an extensive exploration of the intersection of filmmaking and visual rhythm, culminating in a nuanced investigation of the relationship between theories of rhythm and experimental ethnography. Essential inquiries guiding this investigation include the domain of visual ethnography through practice-based research centred on filmmaking. This exploration commences with an in-depth theoretical inquiry, specifically into Henri Lefebvre and Rudolf Laban's theories, forming the foundational basis of the research. Subsequent stages involve examining the dynamic interplay between theory and practice through the creation of two films. This book delves into an analysis of Lefebvre and Laban's theories, linking everyday rhythms, dance theories, and the concept of the production of space. Importantly, this interdisciplinary approach marks new territory, as previous investigations do not explore these theories in the context of practical filmmaking. The films produced as part of this study are an exploration of film form and aesthetics, pioneering innovative pathways in film production by synthesising the study of movement, space, and visual ethnography.
