This exhibition catalogue presents a first comprehensive tribute to Daniel Neuberger. The versatile artist worked as a sculptor, painter, stone cutter and writer and achieved his greatest mastery in wax bossing, the art of sculptural moulding using wax. His delicate works, often measuring only a few centimetres, were particularly sought after by the royal courts of Europe. The catalogue sheds light on Neuberger's activities at the imperial court in Vienna between 5 and 3, where he worked for Emperor Ferdinand III and his sons as a wax sculptor, portraitist and gem cutter. The exhibition features two of his most important works, a -part cycle of the Metamorphoses after Ovid and an allegorical depiction of the death of Emperor Ferdinand III. Supplemented by a comprehensive art-historical and conservation analysis, this publication provides an in-depth insight into Neuberger's work and favoured technique. Honouring an almost forgotten artist: the first comprehensive presentation of Daniel Neuberger's multifaceted oeuvre Focus on wax sculpture: Unrivalled insights into Neuberger's artistic mastery of wax bossing and his most important works Interdisciplinary analysis: Linking aspects of art history, conservation and technique in relation to his work.
